Participant Instructions for Study 133: Iteration #1
For the first portion of this experiment, you will passively follow a red car that is driving on a road between walls. Your primary task is to detect the left or right position of a black-and-white target on the walls and the left or right position of a red tail-light target on this red car.
These targets will appear simultaneously, but you must respond to the tail-light target first by using the red middle buttons on the front of the steering wheel (left button for left position and right button for right position).
After responding to the tail-light target, you must respond to the wall target using the flaps on the back of your steering wheel (left flap for left position and right flap for right position). Respond to the tail-light target first, and then to the wall target quickly and accurately.
For the second portion of the experiment , you will use the brake (left pedal) and gas (right pedal) to maintain a constant distance between yourself and the lead car. You will not respond to targets here.
For the third portion of the experiment , you will both actively follow the car and detect the position of targets. Make sure to keep the lead car perfectly within the white square outline.
As before, respond to the tail-light target first using the buttons, and then respond to the wall target using the back flaps. Do this while maintaining a constant distance behind the red car.
